Living and working in the Queanbeyan-Palerang area
Situated only 20 minutes from Canberra, Queanbeyan has all the benefits that come with its close proximity to the nation’s capital, while not losing its charm and unique character.
It is the largest city in southeast NSW and listed in the top 10% nationally for innovation. Future economic growth will be assisted by the railway links to Sydney and Melbourne, easy access to four major transport routes, as well as major investment being made by the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council over the next 10 years.
Families have the choice of local primary schools and high schools as well as being able to access schools in Canberra and other areas. In addition, there are six university campuses with 20 kilometres of Queanbeyan.
The area has many historic towns that, along with a thriving arts and cultural focus, add to the diverse appeal and host a large number of events occurring throughout the year. Wood Dust, the biennial Australian International Timber and Woodworking Festival is one of the newest of these. Queanbeyan is also home to many innovators and creatives with large numbers of artists working from studios with many also running galleries in the area.
As the gateway to Snowy Mountains, sport and nature lovers can easily access the ski fields and nature reserves on their doorstep. Queanbeyan-Palerang is a rapidly growing, innovative and prosperous region. The top industry for employment is public administration and safety, with the sub set of defence support a significant contributor. Companies such as Codarra Advanced Systems, a leading and wholly Australian-owned consulting, training and systems integration company relocated their national headquarters to Queanbeyan.
With the Australian Defence Force and the Department of Defence as their main customer, they’ve been able to enjoy the benefits of a business based in a NSW country town that is also on the border of the ACT, a part of the ACT regional defence industry as well as a NSW regional industry. Other industries that are benefiting from the increased activity within the region are construction and retail trade, as well as tourism.
